Allow your children to develop friendships because they need them. They are one of their support systems aside from family. Let them understand that interacting and developing friendships come from being a friend.
You may also want to teach them some rudiments of how to become a friend. These are learning experiences that are not sometimes taught in school. They are attentive skills that have to be learned through observation, if you do not teach them yourself.
